Performing Identities: The Creation of a Popular Muslim Music-Culture in the United States is my Masters thesis, published at the Indiana University library last year.
I will add a full abstract later when I have some time (I’m preparing for a research trip right now), but basically it is about American Muslim musicians, those who listen to them, and the emerging culture they have helped to create, which they are in turn shaped by.
Feel free to use this material, but please do the honorable thing and cite my work. I worked very hard on this, for a very long time. If you are using the Chicago Manual of Style, this is what should appear on your reference page:
Goshert, Lori. 2007. Performing Identities: The Creation of a Popular Muslim Music-Culture in the United States. MA thesis, Indiana University.
In the text, after the material you cite, this should appear: (Goshert 2007: [page number]).
Yes, the actual thesis does have my professors’ signatures; I just do not have a copy of that page!

Salams Lori,
Ma sha Allah! I’ve downloaded a copy and plan to read it as soon as I’ve got some free time.
